LUCKNOW- The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has rapped the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh for pulling down a sports stadium here to make room for the expansion of a monument with statues of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) icons.The CAG report, tabled before the state assembly Thursday, took serious note of the fact that the stadium and its adjoining research centre-cum-museum buildings were barely six-10 years old. "It was absolutely illegal for the government to have blown off these buildings with dynamite," the report observed.As per the report, the stadium was built by the state government in 1998 on a 15-acre plot of land in Lucknow's posh Gomati Nagar at a cost of Rs.6.75 crore. Four years later in 2002, a research centre-cum-museum was raised on an adjoining seven-acre plot at a cost of Rs.26 crore.

थाना कोतवाली क्षेत्र नीम गली निवासी बैकुंठ नाथ चतुर्वेदी ने अपनी पुत्री वंदना चतुर्वेदी की शादी छह फरवरी 1992 को लक्ष्मीकांत चतुर्वेदी उर्फ दीपक पुत्र रमेश चतुर्वेदी उर्फ कल्लू चतुर्वेदी निवासी गताश्रम टीला ककोरन घाटी के साथ की। शादी के बाद वंदना चतुर्वेदी ससुराल से अप्रैल 1994 को अचानक गायब हो गई। वंदना के पिता बैकुंठ नाथ चतुर्वेदी ने पति लक्ष्मीकांत, सास सरस्वती, ससुर रमेश और देवर चन्द्रकांत पर अपनी पुत्री को दहेज के लिए उत्पीड़न करने और न देने पर अपहरण कर हत्या किए जाने का मुकदमा थाना कोतवाली में 15 अप्रैल 1994 में दर्ज कराया। न्यायालय ने लक्ष्मीकांत, चन्द्रकांत और रमेश को जेल भेज दिया। लेकिन वंदना अचानक तीन बच्चों के साथ गुरुवार को सुबह पांच बजे गजा पाइसा में अपनी ननिहाल पहुंच गई। उसके साथ बड़ा लड़का शिवरन , विशाल (12) और पुत्री अंजलि (8) भी आयी। इसकी जानकारी होते ही ससुरालीजनों ने उसे पुलिस के हवाले कर दिया। कोतवाल नरेन्द्र सिंह बडगोती ने बताया कि महिला को कोर्ट में पेश किया। कोर्ट में गुरुवार को बयान नहीं हो पाये और उसे महिला थाने भेज दिया गया।

IRAN- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad survived an attack with a homemade explosive device on his motorcade during a visit to the western city of Hamadan on Wednesday.The source said Ahmadinejad's convoy was targeted as he was traveling from Hamadan's airport to give a speech in a local sports arena and the President was unhurt but others had been injured in the blast. One person had been arrested.There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

NEW DELHI- A day after a joint sting operation conducted by CNN-IBN and Cobrapost exposed Jharkhand MLAs who were willing to take as little as Rs 50 lakh to sell their votes in Rajya Sabha polls, the Congress has issued show-cause notice to its MLAs caught on camera. All India Congress Committee member Keshav Rao, who is also in-charge of Jharkhand has written letters to its MLAs - Rajesh Ranjan, Sawan Lakda and Yogendra Sao - who were shown brokering a deal, in the sting operation.Rao had earlier assured that the Congress would take action on the issue.On Monday, within hours of airing the sting operation, political parties demanded strong action against those exposed by the operation.

However, this time it will be without the BJP, the political arm of RSS.The decision to re-launch the campaign was formally endorsed by the VHP central executive meeting earlier this month. The new campaign would be steered by the saints and seers affiliated to the parishad and not by the political leadership.
तमिलनाडु- तमिलनाडु के तिरुनलवली में बदमाशों ने एक पुलिस सब इंस्पेक्टर की बेरहमी से हत्या कर दी। बदमाशों ने न सिर्फ सब इंस्पेक्टर को बुरी तरह मारा-पीटा बल्कि उसकी एक टांग भी काट दी। हैरत की बात ये है कि दिल को दहला देने वाली ये घटना तमिलनाडु के दो मंत्रियों के सामने हुई। दोनों मंत्री पनीरसेल्वम और मोहिदीन खान तमाशबीन बने रहे और किसी ने भी उसे बचाने की कोशिश नहीं की। इन दोनों मंत्रियों के साथ करीब 70 कारों का काफिला था। उनमें से भी कोई शख्स सब इंस्पेक्टर की मदद के लिए सामने नहीं आया।
हुआ यूँ कि कुछ गुंडों ने तमिलनाडु पुलिस के एक इंस्पेक्टर आर. वेट्रीवेल (44) के पैर काट कर उसे तड़पते हुए सड़क पर छोड़ दिया। उसी सड़क से राज्य के दो मंत्री- स्वास्थ्य मंत्री एमआरके पनीरसेल्वम तथा पर्यावरण एवं खेल मंत्री थिरु टीपीएम मोहिद्दीन खान गुजर रहे थे। उनके साथ नौकरशाही का काफिला भी था। काफिला रुका। लेकिन मंत्रियों ने अपनी कार से उतरना मुनासिब नहीं माना। हाँ, वे मदद के लिए तड़पते पुलिसकर्मी को घूरते अवश्य रहे।
आखिरकार काफिले के साथ चल रहे एक कलेक्टर एम. जयरामन झिझकते हुए करीब आठ मिनट बाद कार से उतरे। साथ में स्वास्थ्य सचिव भी थे। लेकिन किसी ने भी पैर कटे इंस्पेक्टर को तत्काल अस्पताल पहुँचाने की जहमत नहीं उठाई। फिर जयरामन ने ही एम्बुलेंस के लिए फोन किया, जो समय पर नहीं आई। करीब 20 मिनट बाद काफिले की एक कार में उसे लाया गया। फिर भी मंत्रीजी का दिल नहीं पिघला और उन्होंने अपनी कार नहीं छोड़ी। अंततः तड़पते पुलिसकर्मी की पुकार मौत ने ही सुनी और अस्पताल ले जाने के रास्ते में ही वह चल बसा।

NEW DELHI- Bank customers can soon withdraw up to Rs one lakh in a single day from ATM machines, and can shop for even an higher amount of Rs 1.25 lakh with their debit cards. Also, as much as Rs three lakh can be transferred in a day to another account through ATMs as also over phone. The enhanced limits for ATM withdrawals, debit card swiping and fund transfers would save the consumers from running to bank branches, that too within banking hours, for such large transactions. Currently, the maximum the customers of most of the banks can withdraw through ATMs is Rs 50,000 in a day.

DUBAI- The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced dedicated bus services for private companies with Emirates Group being the first to receive the service to transport its employees around Dubai. As many as 68 dedicated RTA buses will transport 15,000 Emirates Group employees on 109 routes, an agreement to this effect was signed between RTA and Emirates on Wednesday. According to the Dh100 million agreement, the hi-tech buses provided by RTA’s Public Transport Agency (PTA) will shuttle between various offices of Emirates Group that includes Dubai International Airport, Emirates head office, Dnata and residences of employees.

USA- Gold may continue to trade in a range this week. Investors and other market participants continue to equivocate about prices at recent levels. Investors appeared as buyers if prices drop below $1,100 but seemed to find modest support around $1,090. They turned around and took profits when prices stalled out around $1,130. The concerns are not great enough to push gold above $1,150 at present, although a batch of particularly bad news could trigger stronger buying. Similarly, investors are not ready to give up their guard and let go of their gold. Any drop in prices may be limited to $1,060 – $1,080. Gold prices recently erose to record highs in euros. Combined exchange traded fund gold holdings have been fluctuating between 55.8 million ounces and 56.0 million ounces over the past several weeks. Commodity funds and institutional investors meanwhile have decreased their long positions in recent weeks, but still hold large net long positions.
